About South West Window Sampling

We are a drilling contractor specialising in Dynamic Windowless Sampling.

Based near Taunton, South West Window Sampling can provide:

  • Installation of ground water and gas monitoring wells
  • Concrete Coring
  • In-situ testing (including Standard/Split Spoon Penetration Testing (SPT) and Cone Penetration Testing (CPT)
  • Dynamic Continuous Probe (DSHP)
  • Foundation exposure pits

What is Windowless Sampling?

Windowless Sampling or 'Dynamic Sampling', 'Window Sampling' as its often called,  is a drilling technique carried out by a relatively light weight tracked percussive rig.

This technique uses a calibrated 63.5kg drop weight to drive in a 1m steel tube lined with plastic to recover the sample. Depths of up-to 10m below ground level can be achieved, depending on the ground conditions.

The ground bearing capacity can be determined within the boreholes from Standard Penetrations Tests (SPTs) and Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs) using the drop weight.

Window sampling can be used for the investigation of contaminated land, for geotechnical investigations and the installation of ground gas and ground water monitoring wells.

Dynamic probing can be carried out to aid in soil profiling. This involves driving a steel cone vertically into the ground using the 63.5kg weight on the rig and recording the number of blows for each 100mm of penetration.
